Flame Trees (NaPoWriMo 2016)

Coiled sun,

Bursting sun,

Casting shadows across her smile,

Skin glowing, gleaming, galvanizing me.

She withstands the heat of the flame,

Burning on those branches,

But doesn’t blench under the humid summer heat.

She stares back into her glow,

Casting colors to the sky and cries “IS THAT ALL YOU GOT!”

She doesn’t wait for an answer.

She casts her shade on my smile,

The flames paint colors across her skin,

I’m safe with her.

That is what she gives me,

That is the power she holds in her blossoms,

So she unleashes her colors and lets me stand in her gleaming glow.

I’ve always hated myself save in her glow.

With her I forget what hating myself feels like.
